Bookshelf, What we Love

What are you reading?

October is National Book Month and our team LOVES to read!  Not only is reading fun, it’s also proven to strengthen neural pathways, improve cognitive function, and enhance critical thinking skills.  In celebration of our love of reading, we asked our founders to share the books they are reading and why.  Here’s what they said:

Laura Cooke / CEO + Partner:

Ooohhhhh, I love talking about books! I typically have three going at once – one related to business, one related to the Positive Foundry curriculum, and one fun one. Here’s what I’m reading right now!

I am reading Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity by Peter Attia, MD, with Bill Gifford. My business group assigned it for an upcoming personal development retreat.  I am finally digging into it and it’s incredible! It is one of the densest books I have read, filled with an excellent case for living differently to prevent chronic disease and extend lifespan.

My business book is The E Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber. As we think about our business and desired growth, I chose this book to understand what might hinder our success. I am finding great inspiration to create an even bigger vision and continue on our EOS-Worldwide-LLC journey to work on the business regularly.

My fun book is Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, which my brother and my dad recommended. I am only partway through the opening, and so far, I am fascinated to think of humanity as it has evolved.  We often say we want people to experience common humanity through our programs that encourage dialogue and connection. Connection is what has allowed us to survive as a species!

Chris Cooke / Partner:

I think of books as the meals for learning. Whether I read or listen, I love learning for knowledge, inspiration, and fun.

My business book this month is How to Know A Person, The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen by David Brooks.  My one key takeaway is to ask people their story—their highs, lows, and turning points.

Just for fun, I’m also reading The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love.  My key takeaways are we can all do hard things, and while doing hard things, we need luck on our side.
