Our Vision

Our vision: To create positive generational change through teaching people science-backed skills to live their best life.

We are business professionals passionate about helping companies unlock human potential through a training program that helps employees and their teams to thrive – while fostering a culture of well-being that drives meaningful, sustainable business performance.

Our Focus

Create Positive Cultures

Growth For All Employees

Increase Trust Through Stronger Relationships

An organization is only as good as the people who show up to work, and there are many life moments that can get in our way, including feeling overwhelmed, overscheduled, and distracted. No matter where people are on their journey, helping them discover new choices and mindsets – using proven tools and techniques through learning, development, and sharing perspectives with others – empowers us to be better humans, leaders, team members, friends, partners, and family members. BetterYet is a scalable, human-centered training system to help you do exactly that. The result? Increased performance, healthier employees, and a more positive culture.

Our Values

In today’s world, companies that flourish are ones that create value in both financial and human terms. By helping companies promote well-being, joy, and success in the daily lives of their employees, we help them improve not only the lives of their employees, but their families, customers, and their communities at large.

Healthier Employees, Increased Performance, and Positive Cultures

Laura Cooke co-founded Positive Foundry after going on her growth journey. Stress-related illnesses led her to discover that she wasn’t alone. In fact, most Americans are not thriving despite the plethora of available science, tools, and proven techniques. Determined to share this learning with others, Laura teamed up with Doug Smith, Happiness guru, and her husband, Chris Cooke, and together they have created an impactful and scalable program designed to help organizations thrive through the well-being of their people. The core belief that “when individuals flourish, organizations flourish” has guided this journey, along with some forward-thinking Columbus business leaders who took a bet on this new venture and saw significant results. When people have the opportunity to learn and practice well-being skills at work, they perform better, built trust, enhance the culture, and drive positive business results. They also show up better at home, which improves our families and the community at large.

Doug Smith

Chief Positivity Officer & Co-Founder

VIA Strengths:

With the voice of a professor and charm of a favorite uncle, Doug Smith, a former CEO of three major corporations, is relishing the second half of his life as a speaker, teacher, and writer on the skills that lead to flourishing.

In his previous life, Doug served as CEO of Kraft Foods Canada, Chairman/CEO of Borden Foods Corporation and Chairman/CEO of Best Brands Corporation.

Doug suggests he loves this stage of his life. “For so much of my career I think I was driven by the twin fears of ‘I won’t BE enough’ and ‘I won’t HAVE enough.’ Now I find myself inspired, rather than driven. Inspired to help people live their lives to the fullest. To help people experience the joy of doing meaningful work, have healthy relationships, letting go of past hurts, facing the future with confidence and living in the present with joy.”

Doug’s interest in positive psychology led him to author a best-selling book entitled Happiness: The Art of Living with Peace, Confidence, and Joy (released January 2014). He teaches an undergraduate course at DePauw University and leads sessions at Canyon Ranch on “Flourishing in the Second Half of Life.”

Doug has a BA and an honorary doctorate from DePauw University and an MBA from Dartmouth College. He and his wife Phyllis have two grown sons and live happily in Columbus, Ohio.
